I know how important it is to be paid in full and on time.

Delays, differing site conditions, and claims of defective work can lead to withheld payments, back charges, and worse. Directional drilling and other forms of trenchless construction are risky. No matter the risk, no contractor deserves to have their financial security threatened, or their reputation ruined, because of money unfairly withheld. That’s why I focus my practice on helping trenchless contractors solve the issues and problems unique to their industry.

I understand the poor excuses often used to hold on to a contractor’s money. It doesn’t matter whether those excuses come from the owner, an engineer, insurance company, or even another contractor: I can help you get paid. And I can help you avoid paying for the mistakes of others.

Ted represented Southeast Directional Drilling in a series of high-stakes cases and delivered great results over and over again. He successfully defended the company against the claims of a subcontractor we had to kick off the job. In another case, he got us money after we hit buried obstacles in a public water main project, even after the owner refused to honor the contract. Ted has my highest recommendation for your legal needs in the areas of horizontal directional drilling and trenchless construction.

Meet Ted Roberts, Owner of Trenchless Legal Services

I am a solo attorney based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota focused on helping those in the trenchless construction industry. For more than 17 years, I’ve helped construction contractors navigate the confusing terrain of contracts, project disputes, insurance coverage, and litigation, with a particular focus on horizontal directional drilling.

I understand how issues on an HDD project can spiral out of control and into an expensive and time-consuming legal fight. This means that I can identify issues that might go unnoticed by others. It also means that your case won’t be my first HDD rodeo.

How to work with me:

Schedule a free 30-minute consultation to discuss your problem and goals.

I will review the facts and important documents. If possible, I will speak with those involved.

I will provide you with an early case assessment, including:

  • An evaluation of your case and what it’s worth (vs. the cost of litigating),
  • A strategy tailored to your specific goals, and
  • Potential options for ending the case quickly.

Run things by me if:

  • You are being asked to sign a contract that you do not understand,
  • You are on a project and see problems ahead, or
  • An outstanding claim or issue threatens to become a lawsuit.

If you need help with a contract dispute, Ted is one of the best. He helped my company with the arbitration of a complicated partnership dispute with a very short timeline. His preparation was thorough and effective and I was very happy with the result.
